Global Peace Film Festival

The Burning Season will have three screenings at the Global Peace Film Festival.  The festival is taking place in Orlando, Florida from September 22 - 27, 2009. 

Screening dates: 

8pm, Wednesday 23rd September 

7pm, Friday 25th September 

6.15pm, Saturday 26th September

The Global Peace Film Festival was established to utilize the power of motion picture to further the goal of peace on earth.  

Bathurst comes out for THE BURNING SEASON fundrasier

Juanita Kwok, from Bathurst, was so moved by the images she saw at the Customs House exhibition for THE BURNING SEASON, she decided to hold her own fundraiser for the Nyaru Mentang Orangutan Sanctuary.

Juanita explains, "It was the first time I had organised a screening in Bathurst. I hired a screen at the local Multiplex cinema on a weeknight and they were very helpful in advertising the film on their Facebook and advertising material, they also showed the trailer!".

Juanita promoted the screening through local radio stations and her own networks. She received particular support from World Society for the Protection of Animals, Charles Sturt University and various environmental groups in Bathurst. This promotion and word of mouth helped to push the audience over 100 people and a great night was had by all.

In the end the screening raised $627 for Nyrau Mentang, the Orangutan Sanctuary featured in THE BURNING SEASON.

If you feel inspired and want to make a difference - hold a screening of THE BURNING SEASON.  It creates awareness and opens discussion to you local community about climate change - arguable the biggest topic in the lead up to Copenhagen in December.

Another inspired audience member takes action!!

Louise Boronyak saw 'The Burning Season'  and felt so inspired that she is organising her own fundraiser screening at the University of Technology, Sydney. 

"I saw a screening of the documentary at Macquarie bank and I was inspired to show this film at the University, because these deliberately lit fires are threatening our wild cousins, the Orangutan and exacerbating the problem of climate change". 

This screening will raise money for the Nyrau Mentang Orangutan Sanctuary in Kalimantan, Indonesia. The funds raised will go to providing resources for the sanctuary to continue its good work - rescuing, rehabilitating and returning the Orangutans to their rainforest home.

When: Wednesday October 7th 

Time: 6pm for 6.30 screening 

Where: University of Technology, City Campus, University Hall, Science building, 745 Harris Street, Ultimo (directly opposite ABC headquarters) 

Tickets can be purchased on the door: $7 student / $10 Adult
